A new Eta attack
On Wednesday the Basque businessman Ignacio Uría was shot dead by the Basque underground organisation Eta. Diário de Notícias writes that Spain must harshly condemn Eta's attacks. "Not only Spanish society as a whole, but also and above all the citizens of the Basque Country must distance themselves from Eta, even though some Basque nationalists want independence. ... It is shocking that there are still Basque politicians like the mayor of Azpeitia, where Uría was shot, who have failed to condemn such a crime. A man was murdered merely because his company is involved in the construction of a high-speed train route - a project that Eta rejects simply on the grounds that it comes from Madrid. [Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez] Zapatero has already promised to do what should be done: The route will be completed."
