Getting Greece online
In Greece the Internet is still in the first stages of development, in particular as regards the authorities, the daily Ta Nea writes: "It is at public institutions that the longest delay can be observed in adapting to the electronic era. Using the Internet for the better service of citizens and in the battle against bureaucracy is still at its very beginnings. ... There are many possibilities for providing quick access to information or getting things done. In most cases people are either unaware of these possibilities or don't make use of them. ... Now we have a good opportunity to use the Internet everywhere: at public authorities, in education and ... in the private sector. In times of economic crisis, when Greece's future depends on developing new technologies, reducing costs and improving competitiveness, any other policy would represent an unforgivable oversight."
