Repeal the ex-prime minister's immunity
According to the EU Commission's progress report the Romanian parliament is blocking several major corruption investigations, including the prosecution of former prime minister Adrian Nastase. His immunity as a member of parliament must be repealed, writes the daily Cotidianul: "We have one major problem to be solved: the immunity of Adrian Nastase. As long as he ... is allowed to give lessons in procedure to Prosecutor-General Laura Codruta Kövesi ... his case will hang like a heavy millstone over Romania's image in the EU. The only way to avoid the humiliating observation of the judiciary by the EU is ... for the members of parliament to treat Nastase like any other citizen in legal matters. The judges of the High Court of Cassation and Justice must now be more discreet in their movements. They must judge, and not delay the investigations."
