Biometric passports are the devil's handiwork
A new rule introducing passports containing biometric data has met with opposition from a number of orthodox prelates who call them the devil's handiwork. Several politicians have backed their criticism. Mircea Marian comments in the daily Evenimentul Zilei: "I respect and admire those who remain true to their faith in God in this world governed by pragmatism. Is it the desire to serve God that has prompted the politicians to this pious deed? I doubt it. If these people fear anything it's the loss of votes, money and power. The few citizens who do vote in the European Parliament elections are mostly older people from rural areas. God-fearing people who attend mass every Sunday and obey the priest. What will they do if the latter recognises a candidate as one of the MPs who voted for the introduction of passports that are the devil's handiwork…?"
