Nato manoeuvre in Georgia poses no threat to Russia

According to the daily Diena, the planned Nato manoeuvres in Georgia do not pose a threat to Russia's security, and Russia is therefore overreacting: "The preparations began a year ago and Russia was even invited to take part. Naturally, after the Five-Day War [in Georgia] last summer this is no longer objectively possible, but now Russia has gone even further: It demands that Nato cancel the manoeuvre because it feels provoked by it. … However the right to military exercises is based on the fact that Georgia is a sovereign state. Russia is reacting almost hysterically because Georgia wants to join Nato, and the alliance is in principle willing to let it do so. Incidentally, the Baltic states are not taking part in the manoeuvre, but this has nothing to do with Russia's aggressive reaction. It simply was not part of the plan."
