Berlusconi continues populism campaign
The Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi wants to move the G8 summit meeting planned for July from Sardinia to L'Aquila, the capital of the Abruzzo region, which was recently shaken by an earthquake. The daily Dnevnik writes: "The meeting, which US President Barack Obama will also attend, would according to the Italian prime minister be safe from potential protestors in L'Aquila because the latter wouldn't come to the earthquake region. … Berlusconi is continuing his populism campaign. It has borne political fruits and enhanced his popularity. … To silence the sceptics Berlusconi has therefore announced that the G8 summit in July will be transferred from Sardinia to L'Aquila. … As always, the devil's in the detail - the detail in this case being that there's a clause according to which the decision about where the summit is held is left to the foreign heads of state."
