New government is dependent on old parties
The Prime Minister-designate of the Czech Republic Jan Fischer has formed his cabinet. The liberal daily Sme bemoans the dependence of this "government of experts" on the political parties: "It can do nothing without the prior agreement of the two major parties. The brief storm at the end of last week, when Fischer tried to appoint people other than those dictated by the ODS [President Václav Klaus' party] to three important ministerial posts proves incontrovertibly that in our country a non-political caretaker government is not feasible."
