Sport is more important than jobs
Slovenia's largest textile company Mura is in financial difficulties. The online newspaper Žurnal24 attacks the Slovenian state for refusing to help the company and yet spending a lot of money on roads and international sports events: "It's absurd that the company can't find five million euros to survive considering all the money that is wasted on other things. Even if the sum increased to 20 million, would that really be too much? Certainly not! Let's compare. Fifteen million euros are to come out of the state and community budget to finance the Universiade [an international sports event for university students which Slovenia will host in 2013]. And several more million are being spent on the construction of roads that would never be built if it weren't for the student games. Mura would be over the worst of its troubles if it had the millions that are being invested in these games. But it won't get the money because we prefer games to thousands of seamstresses. And because we prefer a two-week student party to social peace in Prekmurje."
