Finland's business world is reflected in Nokia
Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia on Thursday presented its results for the second quarter. According to the report they were somewhat higher than those for the first quarter of this year but considerably lower than for the second quarter of 2008. The daily Karjalainen voices cautious optimism about the results: "As was the case in April it is too early to draw conclusions about the end of the downturn and the beginning of an upturn. [Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka] Kallasvuo considers [the company] to be in a strong position given the current global situation. But the stock markets weren't so convinced by his assessment. The share prices began to fall rapidly. … The global situation could change, with Nokia being swept away from its position as the world's leading mobile phone manufacturer. The goal of retaining its market share means a lot for Finland as a whole, whose business world is reflected in Nokia. The results and stance of this giant company have a strong psychological impact."
