The Czechs can get along fine without politicians

The Czech political scene is in an uproar after the constitutional court overturned the date for the early parliamentary elections in the midst of the election campaign. The liberal daily Pražský Deník makes fun of the parties' hysterical reaction: "The early elections, we can rest assured, will or won't come. There is no other option, so we don't need to feel threatened. We have a government and MPs, so we won't be left political orphans. But even if we were, we could get along without the finger-wrestling politicians. It would even have advantages. We are after all in a crisis, and particularly at such times politicians are dangerous. They are confused and only cause greater chaos. Of course this wasn't what the constitutional court intended [when it made the decision to stop the elections for the time being]. … People have long grown indifferent to the politicians and all their affairs. The politicians can't seriously believe that citizens will start howling along with them now."
