The electoral farce in Afghanistan continues
More than 90 percent of votes cast in Afghanistan's presidential elections have been counted. Amid growing indications of manipulation on the part of Hamid Karzai, the Afghan electoral commission has declared that the incumbent won a slim majority in the first ballot. The daily Delo comments: "The electoral farce in Afghanistan goes on. Exactly three weeks after the elections the Karzai camp is rejoicing. The coalition of warlords, war criminals and opium dealers is celebrating their 'hard-fought' victory, in which Washington, London and Brussels also played a key role. The international community can breathe a sigh of relief. Their corruptible darling will stay at the helm of this broken land. A second ballot, which would no doubt have set off another wave of violence, will most certainly not take place."
