Hungarian government lacks orientation
In view of the tense relations between Hungary and Slovakia the conservative weekly Heti Válasz urges the Hungarian government to act with greater self-assurance: "It's entirely understandable that the Slovaks are proud of their state and their independence. … But it is unacceptable for the Slovak state to define itself as a contradiction to the Hungarian state. Nor does it make sense that Slovakia sees its neighbour (Hungary) as a threat to its independence. The cautious approach of the Hungarian government would be commendable if it didn't go hand in hand with a lack of orientation, insecurity and even fearfulness at times. This only encourages Slovakia to make a fool of it. … Hungary is in a pitiful state. Our government is mainly to blame for the fact that the Slovak political elite feels the need to constantly lecture and humiliate the Hungarians. If we want to be a self-confident and successful European state once more we need a drastic change in our policy."
