State structures responsible for mine disaster
Thirteen people were killed in a mining accident in Silesia on Friday. The daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna blames the structure of the state-run mining companies for the disaster: "Did things have to come to this? The peculiar grey zone into which the mines have sunk is the result of the way the mining companies are run. ... If the mines are as insecure as they are, it's due to the complex network of companies and small businesses, the hazy labyrinth of personal relations and the fact that often company leaders are not the people best qualified for the job. And what's more: a similar lack of clarity appears everywhere the state has a hand in big business: in the railway, the chemical industry and in the energy sector."
