Businessmen had no influence on gambling law

In the affair in which members of the PO, Poland's liberal ruling party, are accused of close ties with the gambling business three further ministers are forced to resign their posts in the cabinet of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The liberal daily Gazeta Wyborcza remains unperturbed: "The 'gambling affair' has only a limited impact. … Because what actually happened? The businessmen under suspicion tried to influence the gambling law - or to be precise, a project for changing that law. And they used PO politicians to do this. So what? Although they went to a lot of trouble all their efforts were in vain. The project is still in the same state it was when it first landed in the Ministry [of Finances]. And the whole time it was never even slightly altered to meet the businessmen's expectations."
