Renegotiate Opel sale

The coalition talks between the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the liberal Free Democratic Party (FDP) in Germany could provide a chance to renegotiate the sale of Opel, the business daily Cinco Días hopes: "The complaints from other countries about German state intervention and unconventional government practices come at a key moment from a political point of view. Angela Merkel, the centre-right German Chancellor who has just won the parliamentary elections, cannot govern without the support of the liberals of the FPD. But the latter, unfettered by years of sentimental centrist ideology, fought their campaign on the basis of a new platform of free market principles. Some of their leaders even went as far as to criticise the Opel deal. … It may not be too late to intervene and make this deal more economically sensible to take account of the fact that Europe's automotive industry suffers from overcapacity."
