Giorgos Delastik on the agreement between Turkey and Armenia
Giorgos Delastik writes in the left-liberal daily To Ethnos that the rapprochement agreement between Armenia and Turkey is humiliating for Armenia, and warns Cyprus and Greece to be wary of the US in their dealings with Turkey: "It was dreadful how the Americans got Armenia to sign the agreement and set aside its call for the recognition of the genocide of the Armenians by the Ottoman Turks in 1915 without receiving anything in return. ... Very telling was the moment when Hillary Clinton, who had flown to Zurich from Washington, brought the Armenian foreign minister to her hotel to sign the accord. ... He was bundled into her limousine and accompanied to the room where he was to sign the document so that he stood no chance of escape! ... Obama promised in his election campaign that the US would recognise the genocide. But now he's done the opposite by spectacularly banking on Turkey's role in the US's geo-strategic plans for the region. Athens and Nikosia must recognise that for the same reasons the US will support Turkey both in the Cyprus problem and in Greek-Turkish affairs."
