Pole named Finance Minister of the Year
Polish Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski has been named "Finance Minister of the Year in Europe" by the prestigious British financial magazine The Banker. The liberal Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza is delighted: "This is another triumph to add to the collection of this minister who has already won an award from the financial service Emerging Markets. The prize is a boon, particularly as up to now there has only been one Polish winner, Leszek Balcerowicz, who in 2004 was named best central bank head. … Poland, with its economic growth at around one percent and only a minor increase in unemployment when compared with Spain, for example, obviously made a good impression on the bankers and economists!"
