"Avatar" as a reflection of mankind
The movie Avatar is a box-office hit. The paradisiacal planet of Pandora lets us see our planet Earth from a new perspective, author Oscar van den Boogaard writes in the daily De Standaard: "It is good to reflect on a paradise-like world in which everything is harmoniously interconnected. How important is such a world to us in reality? How do we see the alien, the unknown? On Pandora, the indigenous warriors have prehistoric creatures on which they can fly. They chose the animal that is most dangerous when they want to attack. They form a bond with it, inserting their hair braids into the creature to create a harmonious connection. Your enemy can become your partner if you form a bond with him. Avatar shows us how far mankind on Earth has drifted from mysticism and inspiration. … In setting our sights on space we forget to look at ourselves. Here, too, there is life and inspiration. Pandora is here."
