Poles world champions in donations
Private Polish donation campaigns have gathered at least one million złoty (250,000 euros) for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes. "We are world champions in a discipline that is far more honourable than the greatest sporting triumphs. Because we Poles are the best when it comes to helping others. The large world aid orchestra has been organised for the last 18 years, and it is a Polish phenomenon. The campaigns supported by the first and second public television channels, the collections by the Catholic aid agency Caritas as well as our own Pajacyk [donation initiative for children] - none of them can complain that Poles give too little. On the contrary, even when the world is in the grips of an economic crisis and unemployment here is higher than in many other countries we still top the generosity records."
