Hungary should ban the extreme right
The extreme right Workers' Party was banned on Wednesday in the Czech Republic. The Slovakian liberal daily Sme praises the move, and recommends that Hungary take similar steps in its fight against the far right: "The Hungarian extremists make no secret of their goals, which have nothing in common with democratic plurality or human rights in the Western sense. As such they are violating the Hungarian constitution. Even if it proves impossible to ban the extreme right Jobbik party because its leaders are careful about how they express themselves, many organisations allied with this party are not mincing their words. Their speakers make no bones about the fact that they would replace the democratic system with another at the drop of a hat. Contrary to what politicians in Budapest are saying, the laws in Hungary need not be strengthened to combat such attitudes. The current laws are entirely adequate - if they are coupled with courage and hard work."
