Polish energy sector needs investment funds
According to a report by the World Bank, Poland could lack energy in as little as two years as a result of the poor state of its facilities. The conservative daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes that additional funds are needed to restructure the country's energy sector: "The energy sector needs investment because it produces less and less energy from year to year, while demand is growing. Where should the energy companies find the money for investments? Experts say very simply: from loans or privatisation. However bank loans result in costs merely being transferred to consumers. Energy balances are already on the rise. In 2009 the average price charged by producers to distributors rose by 31 percent over the previous year. And prices at which distributors sell energy to end users climbed by 41 percent."
