French Facebook dissidents
A growing number of French users are leaving the online network Facebook on the grounds that it does not offer sufficient freedom, writes the daily Libération: "The secret of Facebook and other sites - including MySpace - was their ability to create a location for the exchange of personal and professional information that was accessible to everyone and yet gave members the strange feeling of belonging to a club that is both select and popular. But the problem with Facebook is that it hasn't developed. ... Founder Mark Zuckerberg was caught offguard by the polemic over the commercial exploitation of billions of private data. In his desire to control and utilise a community that had developed a strong sense of liberty, he created a dissident movement that although still a minority is nevertheless determined."
