Model Fiat production in Poland
Italian carmaker Fiat wants to transfer production of its Fiat Panda model from Poland to a plant in southern Italy and introduce longer working hours there to match those in Poland. This approach should be a model for other Western companies, finds Danuta Walewska in the blog of the conservative daily Rzeczpospolita: "This will really revolutionise the Italian labour market. And that's exactly what Fiat wants. Thus begins the restructuring that should also be carried out in the Italian company's other plants. The goal is to reach the standards that have just been developed in the Polish plants. [Statistically] the Polish employees produce the highest number of high-quality vehicles per capita. This gives Fiat the chance to show the way for other companies from Western Europe, who are struggling with dwindling competitiveness. One of the reasons for this is namely their effective but very expensive workforce."
