Paedophile archbishop should not be reinstated
The Archbishop of Poznan, Juliusz Paetz, who abused young adults training to become priests eight years ago, is to be allowed to resume his full duties as archbishop once more. The Vatican has lifted the suspension on his work. Intolerable, Jan Turnau writes in the liberal daily Gazeta Wyborcza: "'He who abuses little ones should have a stone hung around his neck and be sunk into the deepest depths of the sea,' the Gospel demands. And another quote: 'A paedophile bishop is the height of evil! And he's still sitting calmly where he always sat - even if he isn't in active service any more, that's true. ... But where is his punishment? Where is the official apology for all the defiled? ... ' These are the words of Joachim Badeni [a critical priest]. But Paetz is not only sitting there calmly and not apologising, but he is demanding back his full rights as bishop. ... I cannot understand how the Vatican can take such a decision that gives him back his holy official rights in full. It's obvious that people there think that if there's no protest there's no scandal. They're waiting for Poland to become another Ireland."
