New states must get the global economy going

Following the decision by the G20 at the Toronto summit to keep a tighter rein on spending, the daily Berlingske Tidende believes that some new countries now carry responsibility for a global economic upswing: "The road is a long one and it is above all the engines of growth like China, Brazil and India that can ensure growth in the US and Europe. China has shown itself willing to let its own currency appreciate gradually in order to stimulate exports in the US. Whether China will continue to adhere to this depends of course on how its economy develops. For this reason the global economy is hardly in safe waters yet. But things are slowly looking up, and there is hope that we will be spared crisis and collapse. In this respect the G20 countries are important. And therefore it is good that they have reached agreement."
