Sweden's prime minister keeps mum on election platform
Sweden's governing Civic Alliance presented its election platform on Thursday. The daily Aftonbladet complains that there's nothing new in it at all: "As the Alliance presented its platform yesterday there was an embarrassed silence when the party leader [Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt of the Moderate Party] was asked if the platform contained anything new: 'Uhhhhh...?' ... The tax cuts for employees that the government has pushed through have hardly been effective at all. Instead all they've done is raise the incomes of those who have work, and those with the highest incomes have benefited the most. So what is the Alliance's election programme? More tax cuts. Does the manifesto contain anything new? Uhhhhh... ."
