Amy Winehouse's brilliance immortal

The British soul singer Amy Winehouse died of unknown causes at the age of 27 at her London home on Saturday. The conservative daily The Times pays tribute to her talent: "Winehouse was a singer first and an addict second. Her creativity did not stem from her demons; it existed - and will endure - in spite of them. Listen to her first studio album, Frank, and you will hear a young woman of vision, inspired, yes, by love and heartbreak, but possessed of undeniable eloquence - and the voice to match. That her brilliance endured for so long in the face of such determined self-destruction is testimony to the strength of that raw, original talent. As to blame, it is a futile exercise. ... The truth is, as anyone who has ever had to deal with an addict knows, in the end it is up to them. Winehouse danced on the window ledge of life; whether she chose to jump or simply missed her footing we may never know."
