Cypriot President to blame for explosion

An inquiry report on the fatal explosion that occurred in July on Cyprus concludes that the Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias was "personally responsible" for the blast. That's not what the president had planned, writes the liberal daily Cyprus Mail: "The irony is that Christofias and his henchmen are constantly calling on people to show respect for the institution of the presidency. Is this how he hopes to encourage respect for the presidency - by bringing the state into disrepute with his actions and shabby behaviour? It has become obvious that the decision to put the government and president under investigation was a political farce, to ease the pressure on the government after the Mari blast. The only problem for Christofias was that the investigator he appointed was not willing to take part in the farce."
