Premier Rajoy selects competent cabinet
The new Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy presented his cabinet on Wednesday. The conservative daily El Mundo stresses the ministers' high level of competence: "With British punctuality and without any details being leaked beforehand Mariano Rajoy read the list of new ministers at 7.30 yesterday evening. As we have come to expect from Rajoy there were no big surprises. The new prime minister has put together a government that can be described with four adjectives: compact, homogeneous, experienced and competent. It is a compact cabinet because the 16 people who formed the previous one have been reduced to 14: the president, the vice-president and 12 ministers. Rajoy has not observed the parity rule as there are nine men and four women. ... All the ministers have a moderate political profile, like the prime minister himself. And this is an experienced and competent team because almost all its members are politically seasoned and many of them have already held important posts."
