Bulgaria wants to remain dependent on Russia

The Bulgarian parliament has reacted to the protests of green activists and prepared a moratorium on the environmentally contentious oil shale mining activities in Bulgaria. With this plan the MPs want to ensure that Bulgaria remains 100-percent dependent on Russian natural gas, complains Ivo Indyev in his blog. "If only Bulgarian politicians were always so sensitive to citizens' protests, our country would be heaven on Earth! Imposing a moratorium to protect against the environmental disasters that millions of Bulgarians had to suffer through when the Bulgarian economy functioned according to the Soviet model was never even considered. ... Instead the government is planning a moratorium on the chance to become rich, meaning that we won't produce ourselves that which we otherwise have to import from the 'Bratushki' [Russian brothers], who have already contaminated half Bulgaria with their metal and chemical production."
