Delors and Rocard against Returns Directive

Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission, and Michel Rocard, former French Prime Minister, comment in a joint article in the Spanish daily El País on the draft Returns Directive which has been presented to the European Parliament for approval: "We cannot conceal our concern ... at the fact that the first project for a joint decision on immigration is a draft law for repression, even though the conditions for taking in and integrating non-EU citizens have neither been discussed nor stipulated. ... Would it not make more sense for the members of the European Parliament to reject the law in its current draft? It would seem appropriate ... to ask the EU Commission to revise the draft directive and adjust it to comply with the basic principles of human dignity in which we Europeans believe."
