Felice Dassetto questions free trade
The Belgian sociologist Felice Dassetto denounces the 'absolute status' of free trade. "Nobody is vigorously asking whether the growing circulation of produce is really useful and necessary. An apparently impossible question, seeing as it concerns the great principle of freedom. By defetichising 'free trade', political programmes would not only be able to try and rationalise free trade but also introduce another way for produce to exist in space. It would allow the rethinking of how to conciliate the 'freedom' to trade and the 'freedom' to control the unbearable race to circulate merchandise which is making our towns, the world even, as saturated with excrement (noise, air pollution, technological waste) as towns in previous centuries were saturated with human and animal excrement."
