Exhibition of Markus Raetz in France
The daily looks at the retrospective which the Nîmes Museum of Contemporary Art is currently devoting to the work of Swiss sculptor Markus Raetz. "'Metamorphosis-II' which amuses kids and intrigues adults is the Berne sculptor's best-known work. It is on show among some 200 other pieces, which include - in addition to sixty sculptures - many drawings, four prints, and three paintings. If visitors want to be moved by the prodigious rabbit-castle, they must do the moving. They see the metamorphosis unfold by circling it. Even then they have to vary their angle of vision. It is a requirement for a good many of Raetz's pieces. ... Does Raetz belong to the brotherhood of illusionist artists? It would seem not, because if indeed there is illusion, it lies entirely in the eyes of the public."
