Toni Negri and European decline

The Italian philosopher and writer Toni Negri shares his views about European decadence in an interview with Stefania Rossini. "Europe has not managed to unite itself in the face of the global redistribution of powers. It has also failed to appreciate the extent of the anti-liberal backlash revealed by the defeat of the referendum on the European constitution. This is a sign of Europe's - and, in part, Italy's - decline. ... Not only in the economic and political domains. Take a look at cinema, literature or even universities - and especially the press. Today, some Syrian rag makes for better reading than any large Italian daily."
