Barroso doesn't see Eastern Europe as a problem region

José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, does not regard Eastern Europe as a problem region. Asked in an interview with the Polish weekly whether he regarded the current political instability in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary as a problem for the EU, Barroso replied: "It's not only the new member states that are currently experiencing political instability or even crises This is happening right across Europe. A classic example is Italy. Here in Poland I see a prospering society with a rapidly developing economy. Of course, things can always be better. But can one really say that your country is in a crisis? And anyway, as far as I'm concerned, political crisis is preferable to economic stagnation."
