The crisis in Slovak-Hungarian relations
Hungary is concerned about the new Slovak government's hostile remarks regarding the Hungarian minority in Slovakia. On a state visit to Budapest, Slovakia's new foreign minister, Jan Kubis, tried to patch things up. However, Tibor Kis remains sceptical: "Just before Kubis' visit, Slovak head of government Roberto Fico announced that the European Parliament's criticism of his government was part of an international conspiracy... Kubis himself said in Budapest that the Slovakian government could 'not be held responsible' for anti-minority remarks made by its coalition partners. So it appears that in Bratislava the government is supposed to be regarded as this ideal cabinet floating in the heavens and impervious to the noise of the earth below."
