Small victory for Democrats

The low voter turnout for the Republican primaries and the pronounced differences between the candidates regarding their agendas plays into the Democrats' hands, the left-liberal daily Der Standard comments: "It looks like the situation will work to the Democrats' advantage. They're making snide remarks about the bland mood among their opponents and passing around statistics from Iowa according to which Romney scored mainly with voters who earn less than 50,000 dollars a year and did badly with the unaffiliated. These are both groups that will have a crucial influence on the outcome of the December election. Still, the Democrats shouldn't start celebrating yet. Once the Republican candidate has been nominated the cards will be reshuffled. Then the election will be decided by what the Republican consider more important: the self-castigation of their own party or their hatred of the Democrats in the White House."
