Wczoraj miał miejsce znaczący przełom. Tłum odważył się przeciwstawić się policji w centrum stolicy, gdzie obecnych jest dużo więcej przedstawicieli ważnych mediów niż w Tunisie. In an interview with Ramón Pérez-Maura, the US neo-conservative political analyst Bill Kristol, director of 'The Weekly Standard', examines relations between the EU and the United States. "The question is whether or not European nations are rethinking their policies. Whether they have understood that the world doesn't work the way they thought it would. The answer appears to be yes, in the light of Merkel and Sarkozy's victories. There is a lot less smugness in Europe regarding multiculturalism, the end of History and the decline of the role of religions. ... For a North American such as myself, it is impressive to note how Europe is turned in upon itself. The classic cliché is that Europeans are globalisers and Americans are isolationists. But the contrary is in fact true today."

The chronicler Ramon Pérez-Maura considers that anti-tobacco legislation on a European scale can only harm the EU. "The principle of subsidiarity effective in the EU assures that what can be decided upon in the lower echelons need not be decided upon in higher echelons. Thus, if we Spaniards are already subjected to the authoritarism of our Health Minister, who dictates our daily behaviour, it makes no sense to try and apply a new set of rules on a European scale. .... If the Council of European Ministers decides to legislate, the members will align themselves with a more restrictive legislation. And that would be too bad for those who claim the right to choose for themselves. The promotion of a common anti-tobacco law does not favour Europeanism", but rather offers "a new reason for Eurosceptics to denounce the interventionism of Brussels."

He wished to regain his status as tenor in Muslim countries and he knows that the quickest way to do so is to attract the praise of terrorists who are killing in Baghdad every day, by becoming the upholder of the law bringing the West down on its knees because of the deaths of 400 Libyan children. And Bulgaria now has to pay the price for its military presence right from the beginning [March 2006]."
