Europeans have lost their illusions regarding the United States

Stephan Richter, chief editor of the American weekly The Globalist, considers that Europeans are emancipating themselves more and more from American authority in the management of global affairs. "Europeans strived to convince themselves for too long that their American counterparts had miracle remedies that would allow them to resolve complex or very risky affairs better than old Europe. These simplistic views have ended up disappearing from the thinking of European elites. ... The Europeans have rid themselves of their supposed faith in American paternalism. Now it is they who are called upon, asked to gather their strength beyond boundaries, to initiate thinking-up rescue plans for the world's problems, without waiting for the least support from the United States."

Europe, a secular continent

Stephan Richter, editor-in-chief of the American weekly 'The Globalist', asks "why Europe has no religion". "The lesser role of religion in European public life is a consequence of the formerly authoritative - indeed tyrannical - role that the Church played in Europe's public affairs not too long ago. Hence a certain tendency to reject authority by Europeans who believe the Church dictated for too long and too explicitly how they should live their lives. ... The growing presence of Muslims in Europe tends to encourage citizens and political leaders to minimise the role of religion in the public domain, and to insist on seeing it become more of a private matter."

Intergrating immigrants in Europe

"It is generally acknowledged that the United States are better than Europe when it comes to integrating Muslim immigrants," notes Stephan Richter, chief editor of the American weekly 'The Globalist'. "For many American observers the European failure is due to political error: Europeans preferred welfare to any significant attempt to integrate newcomers into their societies." Richter does not share this view. "The education and training of many of the Muslims who have come to the United States place them among their home countries' most highly qualified people. ... In Europe the situation is very different. Most Muslim emigrés have experienced difficulties because they have no qualifications, are poor, and do not speak English. ...America has a selective immigration policy, not Europe. There lies the difference."
