Bohumil Doležal sees Central Europe on the verge of crisis

Czech-Austrian relations are poor. The two countries cannot seem to agree on the US defence shield, on the Czech nuclear power station Temelin and on post-war expulsions. According to Bohumil Doležal, a Czech political scientist, the deterioration of this relationship is part of a general "Central European trend. Poland is breaking free from Russia, Germany and the EU. The Czech conservatives are contemplating forming an alliance with Poland and the US against a fictitious German-Russian block. Slovak-Hungarian relations are suffering as a result of minority problems... Central Europe's problem (and the EU's) is that the integration of the new member states is based on an immoral experiment which consists in creating a new order by sweeping the unresolved problems of the past under the carpet (in particular the mass crimes against the civil populations in the defeated countries after the end of World War II). Consequently, the 'victors' have inferiority complexes stemming from their guilty consciences and the 'losers' now see themselves in the role of the offended and are trying to solve proxy problems because the real ones have been declared taboo."
