International organisations in Kosovo

The daily Die Presse analyses the situation in Kosovo where international organisations set the rules. "It has become a learning process at the expense of the people in Kosovo. When Pristina declared independence a year ago the [UN administration] should have cleared out and made way for the Europeans as planned. But for reasons known to us all – the Serbs' obstruction, the resistance of the Russians in the UN – this never happened. This is not surprising because no one seriously believed that Belgrade and Moscow would resign themselves to the separation of Kosovo that easily. So a year later when we look at Kosovo's independence the mesh of international organisations that were all supposed to somehow supervise something seems more confusing than ever. No one can seriously believe that this will have a positive effect on Kosovo's development."
