In July 2005, 860 illegal immigrants landed on the Spanish coastline. This year 3,000 arrived over the same period ... It is crucial that the Senegalese, Mauritanians, and Africans from other nations understand that they cannot all live with dignity in Spain and that their fate is either to die at sea - dozens have perished while attempting the crossing - or to live in the margins of society."
