Once we could have relied on strong words of support from the EU and US over Russia but now we’re more exposed

Whatever you do, don’t mention the Russians. Even though they started it. I raise this simply because you do not need to search Twitter to discover that Jeremy Corbyn’s suggestion that this is no time to be “letting tensions” with the Russians “get worse” enjoys more support in the country than it did in the House of Commons this week.

Mr Corbyn’s decision to attack the Conservative Party’s ability to extract cash from Russian donors provoked howls of disapproval in the Commons but I fancy many voters will be surprised to discover the extent to which people who are not entitled to vote in British elections may still donate large sums of money.
