La Repubblica

ежедневная газета

Founded in 1976 by Eugenio Scalfari and Carlo Caracciolo, La Repubblica is closely aligned with the reformist wing of the ruling centre-left coalition. Nonetheless it is critical of the party's current leader, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. The paper has its own television channel. The print edition focusses on commentaries. In the summer of 2014 an evening edition available only for online subscribers and as an app was launched. In 2016 the publishing group Il Gruppo editoriale l´Espresso announced a merger with the Italiana Editrice (Itedi) media group which publishes the La Stampa and Il Secolo XIX newspapers. The merger, which is planned for 2017, will create one of Italy's largest publishing groups, giving it a 20 percent share of the Italian print media market and making it the market leader in the digital sector.
