The Nordschleswiger is the daily paper for Denmark's German minority. It was founded in 1946 as a weekly paper and became a daily published six days a week in 1952. It purchases its non-local news sections from the Schleswig-Holsteinischen Zeitungsverlag press group, but is nonetheless an independent paper. The publisher is the Bund Deutscher Nordschleswiger. It is the only daily in Denmark whose homepage is available for free. The paper is mainly financed by Germany in combination with Danish subsidies. The newspaper has been investing heavily in its online editino since 2017. The closure of the print newspaper has been announced. A short news program in German is produced twice a day, which is broadcast on a private broadcaster and can be listened to on the website. The print newspaper is to be discontinued on February 2, 2021. The entire content, which continues to be generated in the local editorial offices, will be available on the website. Already since the beginning of 2020 this is in effect: Online first.
