Privacy Policy

Protecting the personal information we collect, process and use when you visit our home page is very important to us. As a rule we collect as little information as possible. During this process your information is protected under the data protection regulations.

The Federal Agency for Civic Education has taken technical and organisational measures to ensure that the data protection regulations are adhered to both by us and by external providers.

As we develop our website and implement new technologies to improve our services for you, changes to this privacy policy may become necessary. We therefore recommend that you reread our privacy policy statement from time to time.

Visiting the website of the bpb.de

Every time you visit our home page or view a file on the home page, this is documented. The data is stored for internal system-related and statistical purposes. The following information is stored: the name of the file viewed, the date and time at which it was viewed, the volume of transferred data, information about whether data retrieval was successful, about web browsers and about the domain calling up the data. The IP addresses of computers that request access are recorded anonymously so that they cannot be traced. The log files are stored for a maximum of four weeks and deleted automatically on a monthly basis.

Our website uses the company INFOnline GmbH's "SZMnG" Digital Audience Measurement system (https://www.infonline.de) to compile statistics on the use of our products.

To this end the individual pages contain tracking pixels - small, transparent images which allow INFOline to count the number of visits.

During this process anonymous measurements are made. The SZMnGf Digital Audience Measurement system uses either cookies with the code "ioam.de" or "ivwbox.de" or a signature made up of information transferred automatically by your computer to recognise computer systems.

IP addresses are not stored during this procedure, and are only processed anonymously. The Digital Audience Measurement system was developed in compliance with the data protection regulations. The purpose of the Digital Audience Measurement is to gather statistics on a website's intensity of use and the number of users. At no stage of this process are individual users identified. Their identity always remains protected.

If you do not wish information to be transferred to INFOline in the process of its SZM measurement, you can opt out of the data processing by clicking on the following link: »https://optout.ioam.de and http://optout.ivwbox.de/

Any further personal information is collected only if you give it voluntarily, for example in connection with a request or during a registration procedure.

Personal information we need for identification purposes

If you would like to receive the press review via email or wish to contact us, we require certain personal details. We only ask for the specific information the bpb needs to provide you with a certain application or service. Depending on the app or service, information such as your surname, first name and email address will be gathered. The data fields that need to be filled in to use a certain application or service are clearly marked with the (*) symbol.

How the information is used

We use your personal information solely to provide you with the application or service you select. If the application or service is provided on a temporary basis, the bpb will delete your data when the application or service is terminated. If you do not provide the required information, the bpb will not be able to provide you with the selected application or service.

Transfer of personal information to third parties

The information gathered when you use the online services of the bpb is passed on to third parties only insofar as we are legally obliged or obliged by a court decision to do so, or, in the event of attacks on the bpb's Internet structures, insofar as necessary for the purposes of legal action and criminal prosecution. We do not pass on information for non-commercial or commercial purposes.

Use of cookies

Cookies are used on the bpb's web pages, without us being able to inform you about them in each specific case. These cookies are used to process orders in our online store and to count the number of visits to a page.

The cookies only serve to differentiate between users; personal information such as IP addresses is not stored through the use of these cookies. Individual users cannot be identified through these cookies. The cookies are destroyed when you close the browser; they are not stored in the browser after it is closed. Even so, you can set your browser to prevent storage of cookies. Most browsers are set to accept cookies by default. However, you can deactivate the cookie storage function or set your browser to store cookies only for the duration of a single online session. You can also use our website with the cookies deactivated.

Protection of minors

Persons under 18 years of age should not transfer any personal information to us without the consent of their parents or guardian. We do not request personal information from children or youths. We do not knowingly gather such information, nor do we pass it on to third parties.
