The weekly magazine Le Nouvel Observateur was founded by former Resistance fighters in 1954 and has the highest circulation of all the French weekly magazines. In 2014 following its takeover by the investor trio Pigasse-Niel-Bergé, which also owns the majority stake in Le Monde since 2010, it was renamed to L'Obs. In 2015 it was designated "Magazine of the Year" by the Syndicat des éditeurs de la presse magazine (SEPM).
