Established in 1959, Der Blick was Switzerland's first tabloid. Ten years later its circulation had risen to over 200,000 copies and it quickly became the country's leading daily. A Sunday edition, the SonntagsBlick, was launched in 1969. In 2008 a free evening edition called Blick am Abend went into distribution on work days. At 285,000 copies Blick am Abend's circulation now far exceeds that of Blick, which is steadily declining. Politically it has been predominantly centre-left for years now.
