Der Tagesspiegel

Daily newspaper

Der Tagesspiegel describes itself as the capital's most quoted newspaper, but current subscription numbers show that it is a long way off being the nationwide daily that it aspires to be. It is the third most subscribed-to paper in Berlin but readership is still predominantly in the western districts of the city, long after the fall of the Wall. Since 2014, editor-in-chief Lorenz Maroldt has been producing the Newsletter Checkpoint daily, which has around 93,000 subscribers (as of December 2017, publisher's own details) and was awarded the Grimme Online Award in 2015.
