Weltwoche was founded in 1933, taking the French weekly publications as its model. It was critical of both communism and National Socialism. Until 2001 Wochenzeitung was a centrist publication but this changed when the conservative financier Tito Tettamani acquired a majority stake. Under its current publisher and editor-in-chief Roger Köppel, who was a member of the Swiss parliament for the right-wing, nationalist-conservative SVP from 2015 to 2023, Weltwoche has a right-wing populist bias.
